Japan Calls for Diplomatic Resolution Following Trump’s Iran Threat

(MENAFN) Japan has called for renewed diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing Middle East conflict following US President Donald Trump’s warning of intensified strikes against Iran.

At a news briefing, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara emphasized that Tokyo will "persist with diplomatic efforts with the international community to de-escalate the situation quickly." The government also expressed hope that negotiations aimed at resolving the US-Iran standoff will "move in a positive direction," according to reports.

Trump, speaking Wednesday, stated that the US is “nearing completion” of its military objectives in Iran, while cautioning: "We're going to hit them extremely hard over the next two to three weeks. We're going to bring them back to the Stone Ages, where they belong."

Tensions in the region have intensified since Feb. 28, when the US and Israel launched a coordinated attack on Iran, reportedly resulting in over 1,340 fatalities, including Ali Khamenei.

Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and Gulf nations hosting US military installations. Since the onset of the conflict, 13 US service members have reportedly been killed and around 303 others injured.
